Strategic Planning Committee Meeting Review

The SSW Strategic Planning Committee has held three planning sessions with Coraggio Group since our process began.

  • On March 31, 2022 the committee reviewed a rough draft of Coraggio’s Insight Report. This report is based on the survey Coraggio sent our community, as well as the focus groups and interviews they conducted with school stakeholders. Those stakeholders included: employees (both staff and faculty), students (both undergraduate and graduate), and external groups like our community partners and alumni. The committee has asked them to make several updates and clarifications to the draft available below.

  • On April 4, the committee met to work on mission and vision statements for the school. Mission is defined by Coraggio as "the current purpose of our organization," while Vision is defined as "the future state our organization aspires to achieve."

  • On April 11, the committee met to refine our Mission and Vision drafts. In addition we worked on Values and Position statements.

Insight Report

Coraggio Group's Insight Report is about 53 pages long, based around 7 strategic themes their team identified after receiving feedback from the School of Social Work’s community. In the report, Coraggio explains their methodology for how they arrived at these themes, with each theme supported by charts and infographics based on the results of their survey. These also include anonymous examples of responses they received, to provide context for each theme.

Their methodology for the report is not intended to be an empirical study. The purpose of the report was to engage stakeholders in a way to increase feedback, providing the Strategic Planning Committee with context for our work sessions.

SSW Strategic Planning Web Hub

A public web page has been published to the School of Social Work’s site about the strategic planning process. It includes:

  • Continual updates (like this one) on the committee's progress

  • Access to planning resources like the Insight Report

  • A list of all the committee members

  • A timeline for the remainder of the process

Timeline

The Strategic Planning Committee’s timeline proceeds as follows:

  • Between April 26 and May 11 the Strategic Planning Committee will ask SSW’s community for feedback on what we've produced so far. We'll use that feedback to revise on May 11 and discuss imperatives and objectives for the plan.

  • After May 11 we'll ask SSW’s community for feedback again, this time on a draft of the full strategic plan.

  • The Committee meets one more time on June 6 to refine the plan based on that feedback. We'll also plan on how to implement the plan.

  • Our goal is to have a strategic plan finished by the end of Spring Term 2022.
