The PSU Research Pathways (PRP) program is designed to help early-career, tenure-track faculty establish successful research programs. Participants are introduced to PSU's research community and research support resources. Faculty members in the PRP program become part of a learning community that will explore a number of core research topics to ensure early investigators are well-positioned to apply for and secure external funding and to engage institutional support for their research, scholarly, and creative endeavors.

PRP BENEFITS

  • One-on-one research community mentoring related to participant's area(s) of interest
  • A network of mentors, collaborators, and peer researchers
  • Monthly workshops designed to develop skills to advance research and scholarly productivity
    • Research communications instruction, support, and coaching
    • Development of mentoring skills
    • Early career research proposal development

PAST PRP EVENTS

Creating Larger Impacts with Innovation & Intellectual Property (Tuesday, March 21, 2023, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.)

Representatives from Innovation & Intellectual Property will provide an overview of PSU's approach to intellectual property, examples of how intellectual property protection and licensing have helped PIs make a bigger impact with the products of research, and information that will help you know when to contact IIP for advice and support of your intellectual property. Contact research@pdx.edu to request slides and/or a recording of the Zoom presentation.

Human Research Protection Program: Understanding the IRB Review Process (Tuesday, February 28, 2023, 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.)

This Zoom presentation is provided by Shannon Roth, Director of Research Integrity & Compliance Operations, in the Research & Graduate Studies department at Portland State University. It covers the basic expectations around submitting a protocol for review, managing subjects' privacy and confidentiality, informed consent processes, criteria for approval, and approximate timelines for review.

Open Access Options for Research & Scholarship (Tuesday, January 10, 2023, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. )

Portland State embraces open scholarship! We even have an Open Access Publications Policy. Learn more about how the Library supports you in making your scholarship open access and available to all.

Unraveling the Mystery of NIH Diversity Supplements (Friday, December 9, 2022, Noon - 1:00 p.m. )

The National Institutes of Health (*NIH) provides Diversity Supplements to faculty with existing NIH research grants. This program aims to increase diversity in the research workforce by providing training, mentorship and career development opportunities to underrepresented candidates in biomedical, behavioral, clinical, social and basic sciences research. Do you want to learn more? Join Dr. Rachel Dresbeck and faculty colleagues from around Oregon in a virtual workshop. Note that students at predominately undergraduate institutions (PUI) can be added to research teams at research universities through this grant mechanism. So, PUI faculty may want to attend and learn more about this opportunity for their students.

Introduction to Sponsored Projects Administration and Proposal Development Overview (Wednesday, December 7, 2022, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Richard & Maureen Neuberger Center, Room 312)

In this session, participants will get an introduction to PSU's Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) office and an overview of the proposal development and internal approval process at PSU. Researchers will learn how to notify SPA of their intent to submit a proposal, the roles and responsibilities of the investigator vs. SPA, and what a general proposal development timeline looks like with PSU's internal deadlines incorporated. Following their presentation, representatives from PSU's SPA unit will answer questions.

Data Management and Sharing (Thursday, December 1, 2022, Noon - 1:00 p.m. )

Get the basics on data management planning and sharing your research data. What types of data will you have? Where will it be stored? How can you organize for the long term? This session will cover resources to help you write your data management plan for grant applications, and how to comply with data-sharing requirements at the end of your project.
