Portland State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Annie Lindgren as the Interim Associate Vice President for Research (IAVPR), effective November 1, 2023.

Dr. Lindgren brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served as the Director for the Center for Life in Extreme Environments (CLEE) at PSU. Under her leadership, CLEE became the first formal research center in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, with 15 faculty members spanning Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Communication. The center mentors and trains over 60 students each year and engages with both internal and external stakeholders, averaging over $1 million in research expenditures annually and generating over $30 million in grant revenue since 2011.

"Annie Lindgren understands the complexities of interdisciplinary research and has a proven track record of fostering collaboration across academic fields," said Rick Tankersley, PSU Vice President for Research and Graduate Programs. "We are excited to have her lead our research initiatives, and I am confident she will contribute significantly to the growth and impact of research at PSU."

In her previous role as Project Director for the CLAS Dean's office, Dr. Lindgren focused on developing the renovation and research space plan for the Science, Research and Teaching Center (SRTC), as part of the Vernier Science Center project. She has also been instrumental in building partnerships with external organizations, including JPL, Aerospace, Providence, Global Oceans, and InVivo Biosystems.

Dr. Lindgren is deeply committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion at PSU. She has implemented thoughtful research, mentoring, and teaching strategies that elevate the voices of students and faculty from underrepresented backgrounds.

"I am thrilled to take on this new role and look forward to working closely with the Research & Graduate Studies staff and the broader PSU community," said Dr. Lindgren. "I am passionate about fostering and developing innovative interdisciplinary research at PSU and am excited for the opportunity to elevate PSU's research presence locally, nationally, and internationally."

Dr. Lindgren holds a BS and MS in Biology from New Mexico State University and a Ph.D. in Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology from The Ohio State University. Before joining PSU, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher and an NSF Biological Informatics Research Fellow at UC Santa Barbara. As she steps into her new role as Interim Associate Vice President for Research, Portland State looks forward to the innovative approaches and dedicated leadership she will bring to advancing PSU's research mission.
