New data published on Elsevier’s website highlights the impact of research publications authored by Portland State University faculty and students in 2020. The data listed 41 PSU researchers among the top 100,000 cited authors last year.

The dataset, produced by Jeroen Bass (Elsevier B.V.), Kevin Boyack (SciTec Strategies, Inc.), and John P.A. Ioannidis (Stanford University), shows the values of six citation metrics: Hirsch h-index, co-authorship-adjusted Schreiber hm-index, number of citations to papers as a single author, number of citations to papers as single or first author, and number of citations to papers as single, first, or last author, accounting for factors such as self-citations. That data divides research into 22 fields subdivided into 176 additional disciplines. Additional information on how Bass, Boyack, and Ioannidis constructed the dataset can be found in the paper, "A standardized citation metrics author database annotated for scientific field."

"This list is another example of the reach and impact of research conducted by PSU faculty and students," said Jason Podrabsky, Interim Vice President of Research & Graduate Studies. "The work these folks are doing not only influences that of their peers in their respective disciplines, but it also has a real-world impact on communities across the globe."
