I work as a primary therapist at the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient level of care for eating disorders for all genders. I have a master’s degree in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology from Bastyr University. As a clinician, I aim to meet clients where they are at and provide a space where clients can show up authentically and feel seen. I focus on collaboratively exploring family history, relationships, medical conditions, relationships with food and body, trauma, and structural oppression. Through this, my clients can develop acceptance and compassion towards our former selves, and begin to identify our body’s ancestral wisdom, personal strengths and resources to offer support going forward. Additionally, my work both in and out of the room is coming from a place of social justice. So I strive to remain humble and listen to those with lived experiences and strive to center those voices while I continue to use the power that I have to dismantle the racist systems that are so harmful. I am excited to open the week by helping everyone orient to some vocabulary and ways to show up in these spaces while we are talking about difficult topics like oppression (particularly for the dominant identities). I will also be talking about the effects of weight stigma. 4:00 p.m. Participate in a virtual Group X fitness class: Virtual Stretch & Flexibility with Charlotte K. I am a senior at PSU majoring in Psychology, with a hope to work with children and families. Currently I am the Cultural Sustainability Coordinator at PSU's Student Sustainability Center, some big issues we have been identifying are food sovereignty/insecurity and our relationship to ourselves, our bodies, and our environment. How has food been used as a weapon to target BIPOC communities, limiting their access to fresh foods, leading to an epidemic of obesity, heart health problems, and more. Growing up I always was big, embarrassed to go to the beach when I grew up on an island because of the way my stomach looked, embarrassed at school or soccer practice because of the way my thighs rubbed when I ran with those shorts. I was an active person, but I always diminished that by telling myself and my body it was wrong, ugly, etc.  All of this is to say that we have the right to take back our bodies. Reverse the negative self talk. We all have the right to be outside, love our bodies, and dress the way we want.  Wear that crop top, show the belly lines, own yourself because that is when you can truly begin living.
