Rose Tucker Fellowship at OHS

The Rose Tucker Fellowship is an editorial fellowship with the Oregon Historical Quarterly, whose office is at the Oregon Historical Society, just blocks from PSU’s campus.

Fellows typically work with the editorial staff on fact-checking and photo research for all articles published in the journal. Although a background in Oregon history and an interest in public history are welcome, the fellowship is open to students in all fields of history. Applicants for this fellowship should submit a brief essay explaining their interest and qualifications. Finalists may be interviewed by OHS staff via Skype, phone, or in person.

This fellowship includes graduate tuition remission and a monthly stipend at rates determined by the University. Fellowships are defined as 0.30 FTE (full time equivalent) positions; fellows should expect to work on average about 12 hours per week. Please note, however, that depending on the specific tasks involved the actual number of hours may fluctuate widely from week to week. With limitations noted below, fellowships may be renewed for a second year: however, renewal is neither automatic nor guaranteed. Students must reapply for a second year. Renewal beyond a second year is not permitted.

By University policy, all graduate fellows must be in good academic standing and maintain full-time status during their fellowship, i.e. they must be registered in at least 9 graduate credits per term (summer term excepted). Adviser-approved language study usually counts towards this 9-credit quota. Additionally, fellows must meet all the Graduate Schools criteria for Academic Standing, and the Department’s criteria for Satisfactory Progress through the degree.

New (incoming) students apply for these fellowships as part of their graduate program application.

Continuing students, including current fellowship holders who wish to renew, should complete this application form. They should also arrange for two letters of recommendation from Department faculty. Updated writing samples are also strongly recommended. Note that different application deadlines may apply for continuing students; look for posted information or consult the Department office for specifics.
