Free & Discounted Tuition Programs

We believe in expanding opportunity and creating a more equitable future for everyone who comes to PSU. Our free tuition and tuition discount programs allow you to achieve your goals, without having to worry about the cost of tuition. 

At PSU, our goal is to give you an excellent education at an affordable cost, helping you graduate with as little debt as possible. We offer a full range of financial aid, including scholarships, grants, loans and work-study programs. Nearly two-thirds of PSU students receive financial aid, and the average student receives more than $11,000 per year.

Oregon Resident

Tuition-Free Degree

PSU covers tuition and most mandatory fees for eligible Oregon students. 

Four Years Free and Transfers Finish Free are now called Tuition-Free Degree.

Portland State University offers additional tuition programs and scholarships for Oregon residents including the Rose City Scholarship, Resident Opportunity Scholarship, and the Honors Laurels Scholarship.

PSU also offers resident tuition for eligible students for students who live in Oregon, but may otherwise not be considered Oregon residents for tuition purposes.

Indigenous, Native American, First Nations, and Alaska Native Resources

Nonresident

Washington Border Discount (WBD)

Eligible Washington state undergraduate and graduate residents pay 110% of resident tuition.

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)

Eligible nonresident undergraduates pay 150% of resident tuition.

Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP/WICHE)

Graduate students enrolled in specific academic programs receive resident tuition.

Portland State University offers additional tuition programs and scholarships for nonresidents including the Out-of-State Opportunity Scholarship and the Honors Laurels Scholarship.

International

Portland State University offers tuition programs and scholarships for international students including the International Achievement Scholarship and the Honors Laurels Scholarship.

 

Graduate

Graduate Assistantships

Portland State offers research, teaching and administrative graduate assistantship opportunities. All GAs receive a tuition and fee remission and a stipend.

Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP/WICHE)

Full-time graduate students enrolled in specific programs can save more than $5,600 per year in tuition costs.
