The term Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) has been replaced by Safety Data Sheets (SDS). In most cases you can retrieve an SDS via a google search that includes the product name or CAS number of the substance. All major chemical product suppliers provide SDSs online.
The Worker-Right-to-Know and Lab Safety standards require that Portland State University make SDSs accessible to employees at all times. Because computer power loss or breakdown may not always allow SDSs to be obtained online, Environmental Health and Safety recommends that each department maintain paper copies of SDSs to ensure continuous compliance.
