Online Safety Training

Online Safety Training

Many safety training topics are provided online through several different platforms. These platforms include Safety Skills, EHS Assist, and Canvas. More information for each platform is provided below.

Safety Skills

A majority of safety training courses assigned to FPM, CPC, and Materials Management staff are provided through the online learning management system (LMS), Safety Skills.

All Safety Skills courses are OSHA-, EPA-, and DOT-compliant but additional training may be necessary to satisfy the training regulation for a topic. Additional training may include hands-on instruction, site-specific hazards or procedures, and/or PSU-specific policies.

Safety Skills Access

Learners

FPM, CPC, and Materials Management employees will have accounts set up for them upon notification of new employment.

  • The accounts are created using the employee's PSU email address (Odin@pdx.edu)
  • A welcome email from Safety Skills will be sent when the account has been created, which includes a link to the LMS and initial login instructions
  • Upon initial login the learner will be prompted to create a password
    • This password is unique to Safety Skills and is not affiliated with your PSU password, unless you choose to make it the same

When an employee is due for a training topic provided through Safety Skills they will be automatically assigned the course and receive a notification of their assignment.

If you have a question regarding a Safety Skills assignment, please do not email Safety Skills. Contact the EHS Training Specialist with any inquiries.

Supervisor Responsibility

New Employees

For new employees that require account access to Safety Skills for online safety training and that are not receiving access to AiM, Supervisors should notify the EHS Training Specialist of the new employee and include the following information:

  • Odin
  • Shop
  • Trade and/or Job Title
  • University Vehicle Driver? (Yes/No)

For new employees that are receiving access to AiM, accounts will automatically be created when the AiM activation request is submitted.

Report Manager

Supervisors have Report Manager access for their employees allowing them to see which courses have been completed, which courses are currently assigned, and which courses are overdue for completion.

Supervisors are responsible for ensuring their employees are up to date on all assigned courses.

For help with creating reports, please contact the EHS Training Specialist.

EHS Assist

EHS Assist is a database currently being used primarily for research labs and record management within EHS. The use of this database to provide and track safety training is being developed.

Canvas

Canvas is utilized for undergraduate laboratory safety training and some training for departments outside of FPM, CPC, and CSO.

Undergraduate students may self-register themselves in Canvas for the Undergraduate Laboratory Safety Training.
