Understanding Sexual Misconduct and Resources Student Module

Mandatory Understanding Sexual Misconduct and Resources Module

Portland State University desires to create a campus where our students, faculty and staff interact respectfully. As part of that mission, PSU requires all students to take the "Understanding Sexual Misconduct and Resources" learning module. Through this module you will learn about PSU’s policies regarding gender discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual assault, your rights and responsibilities as a member of the PSU community, and available resources to support those who have been affected by sexual and relationship violence and gender discrimination. The module and accompanying exam will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.

How to Complete the Module

  • In order to complete the module, you must first register for the module in Canvas.
  • After you have registered for the module, it will appear in your Canvas course list.
  • In Canvas, under Courses select "[Student] Understanding Sexual Misconduct and Available Resources” and complete the learning module.
  • If you have any technical difficulties with Canvas, contact OIT’s help desk at 503.725.4357.
  • You can pause the module and go back to completing it at a later time.
  • All students, including students taking only on-line courses, are required to complete the module.

Students should complete the module within the first term of enrolling at PSU. Federal laws (Title IX, Clery Act, the Campus SaVE Act and Oregon laws) have mandated that universities provide students with the critical safety information in the module. To fulfill the federal requirement, PSU is requiring all students to complete the Understanding Sexual Misconduct Module. Students who do not complete the module will receive quarterly emails reminding them to complete it, and there may be consequences for not completing it. If you continue to receive an email asking you to complete the module and you believe you have completed it with a passing grade, please email saveact@pdx.edu to inform the administrators by providing your name, student identification number, and the approximate date you completed it. The Understanding Sexual Misconduct Training Module will remain in your Canvas as long as you have a PSU ODIN account. It is there in case you would like to review it again to obtain information in the module.

Please note that if you are also an employee on campus, you will also required to take a separate anti-discrimination and harassment module. As a student employee, you will be required to complete both modules.

Exemption from completing the module

We understand that some of the issues in the module may be sensitive. We do not want the module to cause discomfort to any student. We would like to encourage all students to understand the material in the module. However, if you believe you cannot complete the module due to past experiences, please email saveact@pdx.edu to request an exemption. Be sure to include your student ID number in your request.

If you need any support around these issues, please contact any of the available support services, including Student Health and Counseling at 503.725.2800, or stop in to speak with a counselor during daily walk in hours.

If you need accommodations regarding a disability, please contact the Disability Resource Center at 503.725.4150. If you have any questions about the module please contact saveact@pdx.edu.
