The Department of Counselor Education at Portland State University has CACREP, CORE and TSPC accredited Masters level programs. The Masters programs in counselor education are endorsed by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists. The programs offer a balance between academic excellence and direct clinical experience; students engage in standard field and cutting edge coursework. Prior to internship, students immersed in practicum gain professional supervised practice in our Community Counseling Clinic.
Our Marital, Couples and Family Counseling program is now fully accredited by CACREP! This means that any current or future students (or students enrolled as of June 2009 if they complete 90 credits) will be under the CACREP program. This will help you throughout your careers with jobs, licensures, and transferability across states.
Please note all four of our programs (Clinical Mental Health; Marital, Couples and Family; Rehabilitation; and School) are accredited.
It's a great time to be a part of the Counselor Education Department at Portland State!
As of January 1, 2010 Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists are now recognized by insurance companies and can now bill insurance for their practice in the state of Oregon. This is great news for all professional counselors and marriage and family therapists practicing throughout Oregon!
The internship fair is a chance for Counselor Education students to explore possible internship opportunities and to make contacts with sites in the area. Sites participating include: Catholic Community Services, DePaul Treatment Centers, Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation, William Temple House and many more!
