Beautiful Questions: A Curricular Exhibition with Heather Watkins in concert with Freshman Inquiry classes Work of Art and Design & Society offers new avenues for experiencing two public artworks by Heather Watkins located on the Portland State University campus through May 25, 2023.

The series of installations in the Broadway Gallery represent the culmination of Watkins’ year-long residency working with students in two Freshman Inquiry learning communities at PSU: Sarah Wolf Newlands’ “Work of Art” and Michelle Swinehart’s “Design & Society.” Under the joint supervision of Newlands, Swinehart, and Brandon Truett (Luce Foundation Curator of Academic Programs at JSMA at PSU), the students devised creative and critical practices to build interpretative frameworks for understanding Watkin's Score (2014), Lincoln Performance Hall and Soundings: Opening, Fathoming, Grounding, Searching, Returning (2020), Vanport Building.

Gala Opening Celebration 5-7 pm, Thursday, March 16th

This inaugural curricular exhibition is supported by funds from the Oregon Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts and aims to form connections between the PSU community and artists. Beautiful Questions advances a broader initiative to involve students in experiential learning that engages and enriches the curation of Portland State University’s art collection through practical, hands-on curricula.
