Calendar 2023 Presidential Career Research Award Winner and Biology Professor Ken Stedman presents: "From Extreme Viruses to Better Vaccines: The eXtreme Virus Lab at Portland State University" Ken Stedman has been teaching and researching extreme viruses at PSU since 2001, involving undergraduate students, graduate students and research fellows in hands-on research opportunities. A sought-after source and outstanding science communicator, Professor Stedman has made over 120 news appearances since the COVID pandemic began, educating the public about viruses and vaccine technology. In 2022 he was selected to receive the prestigious ARIS Impact Goals Award by the Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS). This year Professor Stedman will share a glimpse inside the eXtreme Virus Lab with this very timely talk on the ways viruses persist and evolve in extreme environments, as well as how these discoveries might improve vaccines.
