Barry Commoner Award

Dr. Commoner is an internationally known environmental scientist; founder of the Center for the Biology of Natural Systems at Queen’s College, and a former candidate for President of the United States. The Barry Commoner Environmental Scholarship was established to provide support to undergraduate students with academic and career interests in environmental science. Environmental Science and Environmental Studies students are both encouraged to apply. The amount for this award is $500 and will be awarded in the Fall 2024 term. You must be a junior or senior full-time student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to apply. You must be an enrolled student in the Fall 2024 term (students who graduate in Spring 2024 or Summer 2024 are not eligible). Environmental Science and Environmental Studies majors are eligible. 

To apply, please complete the Commoner application form. Please submit your application directly to Dr. Patrick Edwards at patrick.edwards@pdx.edu by April 29, 2024. 

Accepting a scholarship may impact a student's financial aid. Students can contact the PSU financial aid office to inquire about their personal financial impact of accepting a scholarship. Upon receipt of the award, the PSU Foundation will contact students about how to provide a thank you note to the donor.
