Dr. Kate Friedman is an Assistant Professor of Practice and Program Coordinator of the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling Track in the Counselor Education department at the College of Education. Dr. Friedman received her PhD in Rehabilitation Counselor Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2021. She joined the College of Education in Fall of 2022.

Dr. Friedman’s research interests are primarily around professional identity development for rehabilitation counselors and the effect of clinical clinical supervision on client outcomes. Dr. Friedman has published in a number of journals across rehabilitation counseling and serves on the editorial board for the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Journal (RCEJ). Dr. Friedman is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors (ACES), and the ACES Rehabilitation Counselor Educator Interest Network. In the Counselor Education department, Dr. Friedman teaches primarily in the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling track, including Foundations of Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Contemporary Issues in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, and Medical Aspects of Disability as well as teaching Introduction to Counseling and Introduction to Psychiatric Diagnosis as prerequisite coursework. 

Originally from the Catskill Mountain region of Upstate New York, Dr. Friedman enjoys spending time outdoors going kayaking, backpacking, and hiking whenever she can. When not exploring the wilderness, Dr. Friedman can be found enjoying local coffee shops, playing Dungeons and Dragons, or reading a good book.
