Admission Opt-in Form

Admission to the Computer Science major is an important step on the path to completing the Bachelor's degree, and is necessary before students can register for most upper division CS courses (i.e., CS 3xx or CS 4xx courses).  Admission is guaranteed once the required lower-division courses have been completed, but it is not automatic: you must complete the the opt-in form linked below to confirm that you wish to be admitted to the CS major.  The opt-in form is available for the first eight weeks each term.  Students who have satisfied the requirements and completed the opt-in during that period will be formally admitted for the following term.  We encourage students to complete the opt-in form early so that their requests can be processed before registration opens for classes in the following term.

Students may take a limited number of upper division CS courses that have been designated as "dual use courses" during or before the term when they complete the opt-in.  However, students should NOT, under any circumstances, take more than two upper division CS courses prior to admission (because any additional courses taken before admission will not count towards degree requirements).  Note also that, once admitted to the CS major, students are required to pay differential tuition rates; this is why we use an opt-in rather than a process that admits students automatically as soon as they have met the requirements.  (Please see the student-finance web page for more information about tuition.)

How to Generate an Admission DARS report

To be eligible for admission, students must have completed all of the requirements for admission that are listed in the PSU Bulletin. To verify that you have met these requirements, you will be required to submit a copy of a special DARS report with this form. This report can be obtained using the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the DARS site. (You can also find this from myPSU by selecting the "Academics" menu item and scrolling down to the "Academic Planning" section.)
  2. Make sure the audit level is set to "PSU - Undergraduate or Post-bac Audit" and then click "Continue.
  3. In the drop-down box for "Degree Program," select "Computer Science - Admission Requirements - ADMIT-CS" and then click the "Run Audit" button.

Your audit report will now be displayed.

Interpreting the Admission DARS report

To decide how to proceed, check the message at the top of your Admission DARS report.  One of the following should apply:

  • If the message is "All requirements identified below have been met" (shown in green), then congratulations, you are ready to proceed with the remainder of the opt-in process!  Click on the "Print/Download" link to display a printable version of the DARS report, and then use the relevant feature of your browser to print or save the report as a PDF file.  You may then proceed to fill out the opt-in form,  which will also require that you upload the saved PDF version of the DARS report.
  • If the message is "All requirements are complete using in-progress courses", then you are making great progress.  Please come back to this page early next term to complete the opt-in form.
  • If the message is "You're making progress: at least 1 requirement remains unmet", then you are not ready to complete the opt-in at this time, but you can review the items listed in the DARS report to confirm which requirements you have already satisfied, which ones are in progress, and which ones remain to be completed in a future term.  [NOTE: If the DARS report indicates that you have not satisfied either the "MCECS AL/SS requirement", or any other required class that you believe you have completed, then please contact our undergraduate advisor at uccs@pdx.edu for further guidance.]

Requirements are not considered complete until they are reflected on DARS.   Students may need to allow extra time for courses to appear on DARS if they are being transferred from another institution and are advised to monitor their previous institution's transfer process to ensure that the transfer occurs as quickly as possible.

NOTE:  If you need any help in understanding what requirements or steps are still needed, then please contact our undergraduate advisor at uccs@pdx.edu for help.
