Engineering Undergraduate Advising


 Jodi Stiegemeyer
Pathway Advising Director, Engineering/Computer  Science/Math/Physics
Jodi has been advising engineering majors at PSU since January 2011. She is originally from Southern California and attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as an undergrad and grad student. She has worked with middle school, high school, community college, and university students throughout the Central Coast for many years. Upon moving to Portland Jodi worked for non-profits including Portland Leadership Foundation/Act Six, which support the leadership and success of students underrepresented in higher education. Jodi helps PSU students (and those planning to become PSU students!) taking lower division courses as they work toward formal admission into their programs. Jodi especially enjoys the rapport that develops with students as they navigate engineering. Karen Kennedy
Academic Advisor
Karen is an academic adviser with a strong background in counseling and mental health, as well as experience and a strong interest in working with international, refugee, and immigrant students.  She has a B.A. in History and Humanities, an M.A. in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE), from Michigan State University, and a teaching certificate in Secondary Education/Social Studies from the University of Michigan. She is on the PSU Faculty Senate Steering Committee and is the MCECS unit rep for PSU-AAUP. Karen has traveled throughout Europe and the Middle East and hopes to see more of the world! She loves plants and is a beekeeper and community gardener. She enjoys being in nature, seeing foreign films, going to independent bookstores, and knitting.                  

Staci Kiker
Academic Advisor 
Staci is a PSU alum who transferred from Portland Community College to earn both her B.S. and M.S. degrees. She has a background working with community college students and has worked extensively with design students as well as students engaging in online coursework. Her experience as a transfer and first-generation college student has helped her understand how important it is for students to utilize support services to navigate and understand the university environment. In her free time, Staci enjoys reading, hiking, and playing guitar.



Cristina Restad
Academic Advisor
Cristina is a PSU alumna, with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Sociology. Her graduate studies were in Sociology, her scholarship focused on the experiences of first-generation and underrepresented students in higher education, with a specific emphasis on factors that drive persistence and completion. Linda Wasson
Academic Advisor
Linda Wasson joined Maseeh College in December 2011. After working for two years as the executive assistant to the dean, Linda became a special programs coordinator and advisor in the college in the spring of 2014. Her principal duties include providing academic advising to students completing their lower division engineering coursework as well as coordinating the college’s international programs. Linda’s previous advising experience included working with geography majors at the University of Washington. A graduate of the University of Oregon and the University of Washington, Linda is passionate about different cultures and lived abroad for many years in Brazil, Taiwan, and France. Linda is happy to be back in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and is dedicated to helping all Maseeh College students be successful at PSU. You can reach Linda by emailing her at



Computer Science Advising

Barbara Sabath
Undergraduate Computer Science AdvisorBarbara began advising Computer Science majors at PSU in 2008. She guides students through the entire program to graduation and loves to hear them relay their enthusiastic experiences in CAT’s Braindump program, PCEP internships, and other activities before they begin their professional careers. Barbara is a native San Franciscan and earned a BS in Environmental Studies with a minor in Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz before moving to the beautiful Northwest. She earned a MS in Postsecondary Adult and Continuing Education from PSU. Barbara has volunteered at the San Francisco Zoo, San Francisco Botanical Garden, Portland Fruit Tree Project, and currently works with Oregon Friends of Jung. Walking, hiking, reading, films, and gardening are some of her favorite activities when not working with students. You can reach Barbara by emailing her at


Rebecca Sexton
Graduate Computer Science Advisor

Rebecca Sexton joined Maseeh College in October 2015.  Her principle duties include admission and academic advising to current and prospective graduate students for the Master of Science in Computer Science program. Rebecca’s previous experience included admissions and recruitment with PSU's Graduate School of Education, where she also received her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy in June 2015.  Originally from Michigan, Rebecca moved to Oregon in 2012 and fell in love with the outdoors.  She is an avid hiker and enjoys traveling to new places, both in and out of the US, searching for mountains to ascend. Rebecca’s passion for education extends beyond her role with PSU, as she also participates in multiple mentor programs, working with middle school to college-aged students, create pathways to success and higher education. Frank Goovaerts
Director of Student Career Success

Frank Goovaerts joined Maseeh College in January 2012.  He graduated from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium and the University of Cincinnati with engineering degrees in Electro-Mechanical and Mechanical Engineering.  Prior to joining PSU Frank was Director of Engineering at Tektronix. Today Frank helps students bridge the gap between college and the workplace through personal appointments to review resumes and outline a personal career search strategy and by leading workshops for students and alumni.  Frank hosts internship programs in the college including MECOP and Engineering Work Experience (EWX)manages a job board to help local companies staff their engineering needs with PSU students and graduates, and organizes various career events within the college. In his spare time, Frank enjoys the outdoors. Joyce Pieretti 

Recruitment, Diversity & Retention Coordinator

Joyce completed her Ph.D. in Integrative Biology at the University of Chicago. She was an AAAS Fellow for Science and Engineering Mass Media. She helped found a chapter of the Society for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) and a founding member of the  Multicultural Graduate Community (MGC). She provides ongoing student and faculty support, with a specific focus on student populations who have been traditionally underrepresented or underserved in engineering and computer science fields. You can reach Joyce by emailing her at
