Acting on equity and racial justice is PSU President Stephen Percy's number one priority, and the President's Diversity Action Council (DAC) is paving the way for meaningful change. Sign up to join the DAC as a general member and/or implementation committee member today!

About the DAC

Created in 1999, the Diversity Action Council (DAC) is commissioned by the President and Vice President for Global Diversity & Inclusion, and is comprised of PSU faculty, staff, and students. The DAC's role is to foster equity and social justice by reviewing PSU programs, policies, and decision making and developing recommendations that aid the university in our work to serve  the best interests of our diverse constituents. DAC Members can serve in two ways: as a general member of the Diversity Action Council Main Body and/or as a member of one one of four DAC committees.

The DAC committees are responsible for reviewing current practice, researching best practices, and supporting the development of diversity education & learning -- all by working to fulfill their respective committee initiatives as outlined by the PSU Plan for Equity and Racial Justice. You can read more about the committees in the section below.

Being a general member of the main body of the DAC means you will be supporting the work of the council by providing leadership, insights, and guidance. Additionally, you may also be helping to facilitate and support additional equity and racial justice efforts like the President's Diversity Mini Grants Program and the PSU Culturally Responsive Symposium. DAC members are expected to attend bi-monthly council meetings.

Acting on Equity & Racial Justice

It is time for Portland State to accelerate its effort to combat racism and advance social justice across our campus with dogged determination and long-term commitment. Here’s what’s being done and how to get involved.

Dac Committees

We have organized our equity and racial justice work into four committees according to a five dimension framework adapted from the two most popular DEI frameworks in higher education: the Inclusive Excellence framework and Smith’s Framework for Fostering Diversity and Inclusion.

  1. Access, Success and Equity
  2. Employee Access, Success and Equity
  3. Campus Climate and Intergroup Relations
  4. Education, Scholarship and Service

Since PSU’s first Equity Summit in Fall 2020, these committees have worked to develop ambitious and meaningful initiatives and projects to deliver PSU into a bright and equitable future for all. Work on these proposed initiatives have already begun in earnest!

DAC Committees are supported by Chairs/Co-Chairs. These Chairs/Co-Chairs will commit to a 1.5 year term (Term 1: January 2022 to July 2023/ Term 2: July 2023 - December 2024), with opportunities to renew their commitment until Dec. 2024.
