Systems Engineering
Systems Engineering (SYSE) at Portland State University offers a distance learning masters program for working engineers and other professionals involved in the development and operation of complex products, processes, and services. Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary approach that enables the realization of successful systems.

New to Systems Engineering?

Systems Engineering is the practice of creating the means of performing useful functions through the combination of two or more interacting elements.

Systems Engineering is very broad and can be applied a wide range of areas.

From very general --  critical and systems thinking applied to high-level decisions that involve human and natural systems and system of systems.

To specific technical areas in the development of products, processes, and services that involve hardware-software and consumer systems.

What can the PSU Systems Engineering Program (SYSE) offer me?

An anywhere, anytime, distance-learning environment: All required SYSE courses and elective courses are available online. Despite the online nature of the program, students do not lose out on the valuable peer and professor interaction that graduate classes provide.

The opportunity to study under leading experts in the field: Instructors are recognized around the world in the field of Systems Engineering and have many years experience at teaching online systems engineering courses.

The ability to develop your educational plan to fit your interests and goals: Our program is available to practicing professionals who wish a masters degree in Systems Engineering, applied to their areas of interest.

New to PSU's systems engineering program?

Our program is undergoing major re-organization. We are embarking on a cohort-based student body, offering significant pedagogical advantages for the student and stability for the program. We have already identified specific groups of students with the same interests in systems engineering (a pre-determined group of cohorts). These groups have an employer or sponsor who supports them with earning our master's degree. We are still working on how we might help an individual student with a similar interest who is not part of these cohorts. An option is for an individual to form such a group, a minimum of 20, with aid of their employer or sponsor. Please contact the Director of the program with questions.
