Educational Programs, Events, and Opportunities

Get involved with SLS

SLS offers various opportunities for students interested in the law to get involved in professional or volunteer capacities. We hire PSU students in various student-employee roles, including as legal assistants.

We also have volunteer opportunities through our Student Advisory Board, and student internships with our office each term.

Additionally, our attorneys present legal topic overviews, we host legal networking events throughout the year, and facilitate the award-winning Explore the Law cohort program.

Read the summaries below or visit the landing pages for our Internship, Explore the Law, Advisory Board, and Presentations to learn more and get involved!

Internships

Experience the work of our law firm

SLS offers internship positions each term, including in summer. Student interns shadow attorneys, take notes in client meetings, assist in drafting pleadings, letters, and learn to conduct legal research.

Explore the Law

Prepare for law school with mentorship, workshops, and more

SLS faciliates a cohort program for pre-law students. Explore the Law (ETL) presents weekly panels and workshops and pairs admitted students one-on-one with an attorney mentor to demystify careers in the law, and the law school application process.

Advisory Board

Provide valuable input to SLS, gain board member experience

The SLS Advisory Board reviews SLS programming, budgets, and activities. This is an unpaid, volunteer position with a one-year commitment. Joining our Advisory Board is a great way to learn more about the unique needs of a non-profit legal services office, and gain experience working in a professional setting.

Presentations and Events

Learn about legal topics, participate in networking opportunities with attorneys

Throughout the year, SLS offers free in-person and remote sessions in which our attorneys present on timely legal topics, such Renter's Rights, Immigration laws, and more.  Whether you are interested in a topic based on personal impacts to yourself or loved ones, or hope to pursue a career in law and love learning the intricacies of different legal practice areas, our free presentations have a lot to offer!

We also host legal networking and panel sessions with guest attorneys and judges, so students can hear directly from legal professionals about their paths into law and build connections for potential mentorship.
