Graduate Assistant Training

Graduate Assistant (GA) Training is designed to help you succeed in your role as graduate assistants and work toward creating inclusive learning and mentoring environments for undergraduate students.

This training is required for all newly appointed graduate assistants (as well as those who hold an appointment but were not able to attend last year's training). All graduate students are welcome to attend.

The DEI and pedagogy training consists of two sessions:

  • Building a Reflexive Teaching & Scholarly Practice
    • Explores identifying and strategically intervening in the structures of domination and erasure in academic fields and in the production and dissemination of knowledge. It supports you as you engage in a reflexive scholarly practice that complements and complicates the mastery of a body of knowledge. You will identify the roots of exclusion and inclusion in your academic field and understand how the history of your discipline affects your work today.
  • Inclusive Pedagogy Training
    • Provides practical, evidence-based, inclusive teaching tips that can be used in any classroom. Separate concurrent sessions will be held, one for STEM disciplines and another for humanities and social sciences disciplines.
      • STEM Session
        • When: Friday, Sept. 22, 3-4:30 p.m. [Add to Calendar]
        • Where: Cramer Hall, Room 401
        • Facilitator: Erin Shortlidge, associate professor, Biology
