Requirements

Introductory Courses (8 credits)

  • G 201 Dynamic Earth: Interior and G 204 Geology Lab
  • G 202 Dynamic Earth: Surface and G 205 Geology Lab

Students may substitute an introductory course from the School of Earth, Environment, and Society for G 201/G204 or G 202/G205 (i.e. G 203/G 206, G 301, Geog 210/Geog 210L, ESM 220/ESM 220L)

  • G 313 Methods in Mineralogy
  • G 314 Petrology
  • G 315 Lithology and Petrography
  • G 318 Processes in the Surface Environment
  • G 319 Processes in the Surface Environment: Methods
  • G 324 Data Management and Analysis
  • G 434 Structural Geology and Tectonics
  • G 435 Sedimentology and Stratigraphy
  • G 485 Geologic Mapping

Upper-Division Geology Electives (16 credits)

G 410 or higher. This may include up to 8 credits of 400-level mathematics, science, engineering, and/or School of Earth, Environment, and Society (SEES) courses. Students may use up to 4 credits from an approved summer field camp course.

Two terms of Calculus (8 credits):

  • Mth 251Z Differential Calculus
  • Mth 252Z Integral Calculus

Allied Sciences Courses (18-20 credits):

Two terms of 200-level chemistry with labs:    

  • Ch 221Z General Chemistry I and Ch 227Z General Chemistry Laboratory
  • Ch 222Z General Chemistry II and Ch 228Z General Chemistry Laboratory

or

  • ESM 230 Fundamentals of Environmental Chemistry I and ESM 230R Recitation for Environmental Chemistry I
  • ESM 231 Fundamentals of Environmental Chemistry II and ESM 231L Lab for ESM 231

Two terms of 200-level physics with labs:    

  • Ph 201 General Physics and Ph 214 Lab for Ph 201
  • Ph 202 General Physics and Ph 215 Lab for Ph 202

or

  • Ph 211 General Physics (with Calculus) I and Ph 214 Lab for Ph 211
  • Ph 212 General Physics (with Calculus) II and Ph 215 Lab for Ph 212

Total Credit Hours: 84-86

Courses must be taken as graded (A-F). Courses taken under the undifferentiated grading option (pass/no pass) are not acceptable toward fulfilling the School major requirements.
