Using Beaver and Beaver Dam Analogues to Restore Streams
Join us for an intensive, hands-on field course on the use of beaver and beaver dam analogues to restore stream habitat. Using beaver to restore streams is rapidly gaining acceptance as a cost-effective technique to improve aquatic habitat, especially for salmonids. Scientific advances continue to demonstrate that beaver, beaver dams and beaver dam analogues can restore stream, riparian and floodplain habitat far more effectively, and at a much lower cost, than many traditional restoration approaches. Regulatory and institutional obstacles are being reduced or removed as this suite of restoration techniques is gaining wider acceptance.
Each day we will have classroom time and field exercises. Be prepared for full, intensive, activity-filled days that include wading, constructing beaver dam analogues, handling live animals, and onsite analysis for beaver restoration potential.
