Currently Accolades: Grants for August 2, 2021

  1. Karen Cellarius, Regional Research Institute for Human Services, Marcy Hunt, director of counseling services for the Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC), Amy Ruff, SHAC, and Aliza Tuttle, Regional Research Institute for Human Services, were awarded a 3-year $306,000 grant from the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to initiate a campus-wide suicide prevention program beginning this fall. Jane Kelly and Papireddy Kancharla, chemistry faculty, received a five-year, $3.3 million National Institute of Health grant for “Second-Generation Novel Liver Stage Active Antimalarials,” a study of late lead optimization of second-generation acridone drug candidates that have shown a remarkable potential to treat and prevent malaria. 
  3. Jane Kelly and Papireddy Kancharla, chemistry faculty, received a two-year $431,186 National Institute of Health/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases award to study the “Development of Novel Natural Product Inspired Antileishmanial Drugs.” 
  4. Eva Thanheiser, mathematics faculty, Jola Ajibade, geography faculty, Gina Greco, world literatures and language faculty, Larry Martinez, psychology faculty, and Lisa Weasel, women, gender and sexuality studies faculty, were awarded a $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to explore equity issues for women faculty and faculty of color in STEM fields at PSU.
