It is our belief that your understanding of Portland State University's policies and academic requirements, as well as the support you provide your student will assist in your student's ability to succeed at PSU. We hope that you will plan to attend New Student Orientation with your student.
Since many new PSU students begin during fall term, there are multiple orientation sessions. Families of transfer students are welcome to attend these sessions with their student.
For families of freshmen students, PSU hosts a Family Program that allows families to attend portions of orientation with their student and other portions separate from their student. These sessions are designed to educate you about the resources available to PSU students and the transitions that many students and families experience during this academic journey. Please remind your student to sign up any family members or guests for these programs and pay associated fees when they sign-up for their specific orientation session.
We encourage all new PSU students to consider bringing up to two guests with them to orientation.
Winter, Spring, and Summer Terms
Family members are also welcome to attend Orientation sessions with students beginning winter, spring, and summer terms. These programs are shorter in duration than programs for Fall term and typically occur in the morning on specific weekdays.
As you prepare to attend New Student Orientation with your student, you may be interested in exploring the Portland State University Parent and Family Resources website. On this website, you will find information regarding many of PSU's available resources as well as suggestions for families supporting new and current PSU students.
