It is our belief that your understanding - as a parent or family member - of Portland State University, and the support that you provide to your PSU student, will assist in your student's ability to be successful. We hope that you will plan to attend an Orientation: Advising and Registration Day with your new PSU student. These sessions occur before the start of each new term.
Since many new PSU students begin during Fall term, there are multiple Orientation sessions. Families of transfer students are welcome to attend these sessions with their student.
For families of freshmen students, PSU hosts a Family Program that allows families to attend portions of Orientation with their student and other portions separate from their student. These sessions are designed to educate you about the resources available to PSU students and the transitions that many students and families experience during this academic journey. Please remind your student to sign up any family members or guests for these programs and pay associated fees when they sign-up for their specific Orientation session.
We encourage all new PSU students to consider bringing up to two guests with him/her to Orientation.
Winter, Spring, and Summer Terms
Family members are also welcome to attend Orientation sessions with students beginning Winter, Spring, and Summer terms. These programs are shorter in duration than programs for Fall term and typically occur in the morning on specific weekdays. To learn more and see program dates, participate in the sign-up process with your student.
We hope that you will attend an Orientation program with your student. Please also check out the Portland State University Parent and Family Resources website. On this website, you will find information on many of PSU's available resources as well as suggestions for families supporting new and current PSU students.
