Ralph Pugay


Born in the Philippines, Ralph Pugay holds a BA and MFA in Contemporary Art Practice from Portland State University and is a residency graduate from the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. Other residencies include the Rauschenberg Foundation at Captiva Island, the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans, Crow's Shadow Golden Spot Residency Program, and Creative Exchange Lab thru Portland Institute for Contemporary Art.

Pugay’s awards include a Ford Family Foundation Rauschenberg Fellowship, the 2015 Betty Bowen Award from the Seattle Art Museum, an Oregon Arts Commission Fellowship, and a Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Award. He has participated in group exhibitions at Marinaro, AA|LA, The Art Gym, Disjecta's 2014 Portland Biennial, Ortega Y Gassett Projects, and Salt Lake Art Center.

Notable solo exhibitions were held at Rocksbox Contemporary Fine Art, Ditch Projects, the Seattle Art Museum, Upfor, Vox Populi, and FAB Gallery (Virginia Commonwealth University), and KSMoCA among others. He has also co-produced socially engaged projects with support from Houseguest, Portland Parks and Rec, and the Precipice Fund.
