The Transformational Research for Equity and Experience in Shelter (TREES) Committee is made up of people with diverse lived experiences of homelessness. TREES members work collaboratively with PSU researchers and students to co-design and lead homelessness- and health-related research that reflects the priorities, experiences, and strengths of people directly affected by homelessness and housing insecurity.
TREES members are trained in research methods and have earned a microcredential in Leadership in Community-Engaged Research from the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. By bringing together research skills and lived expertise, members help shape research questions, methods, interpretation, and dissemination so that the work is relevant and useful to the communities it is intended to serve. The TREES Committee was established in 2024 to co-create the Pathways to Housing study. Since then, its work has expanded to include multiple research and research-translation projects. Current activities include Dying in Place or Finding a Place to Die: Navigating Supportive Housing for Older People Experiencing Homelessness at End of Life, funded by the Institute on Aging, as well as ongoing translation and action-oriented work stemming from the Pathways study.
TREES is also continuing to build partnerships and pursue opportunities that support members in identifying, conducting, and leading research on the issues they see as priorities for improving responses to homelessness and advancing lasting solutions.
