The Department of Geology invites donations from alumni and friends to support the endeavor about which they are most passionate. The Department is indebted to the continued generosity of alumni and friends who donate to these funds.
This fund supports a variety of activities that contribute to the academic experience of our undergraduate, graduate students, and faculty, including hosting speakers for the department seminar, student field work, sample analysis, publishing costs, and travel support for students and faculty to attend conferences.
The Cummings Scholarship is awarded to Junior or Senior undergraduate students of the Geology Department who have faced unexpected challenges during their education at Portland State University, either financially or circumstantial. We seek applicants whose graduations may be delayed by factors such as interrupted education, leaves of absence, or reduced course loads. We typically award two scholarships of up to $2,000. The Scott Burns Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students of the Geology Department of either Senior academic standing or achieving a post-Baccalaureate Geology degree. The purpose of the award is to support Geology Students in good academic standing who can demonstrate financial need. We typically award two scholarships of up to $2,000 each. Students may apply for this scholarship and others here.
