Undergraduate

Course Prerequisites: Before enrolling in any Computer Science course, students should read the course description and ensure that they have completed all prerequisites with a grade of C or better. Students who have not met this requirement may be administratively dropped from the course.

Continuation Criteria: Admitted CS undergraduate students who are not making acceptable progress towards their degree requirements will be dropped from the program and required to reapply for admission. Acceptable progress is defined as completion of at least 8 credits of coursework with acceptable grades (C or better for required CS courses, C- or better for required non-CS courses) satisfying departmental requirements, over the preceding 12 months. Readmission will be determined by the CS Appeals Committee.

Minimum laptop requirements (for all types)

Students registering for upper division (300-level or above) Computer Science courses are expected to have access to a laptop (either PC or Mac) with wireless Internet access meeting a set of minimum requirements, as specified in the sections below. Chromebooks, iPads, and similar devices do not meet the requirements to run many applications that may be used in various CS courses.

Attendance Policy

Students registered for any class taught by the MME Department must attend the first class session during week one. If prior written permission is not granted by the instructor to miss the first class, students can be administratively removed.

Waitlists: Review PSU's Understanding Waitlist Information. Once the term has started the waitlist is managed by the Department. MME staff will notify students using their PSU email account that a spot has opened up in that class.  Students on the waitlist who do not attend the first day of class will not be eligible to register for the class if a seat becomes available.

BSME Readmission Policy

Readmission into the BSME Program after Suspension

Students are suspended from the BSME program after two consecutive terms of academic probation or after three non-consecutive terms of academic probation. In order to be readmitted to the program, suspended students must successfully complete a readmission plan.

In order to be eligible for readmission, suspended students must retake at least two thirds of the upper division ME courses where a grade of C- or below was earned. The list of courses to be retaken, and the order in which those classes are retaken are determined by the following procedure.

  1. List all upper division engineering classes with grades of C– or below. The courses on that list are called the probationary courses.
  2. Compute the number of credits greater than or equal to two thirds of the number of credits for the probationary courses, i.e. the list created in the preceding step.
  3. From the list of probationary courses, working from the courses having the lowest grades (e.g. F before D, D before C), select courses until the number of credits equals or exceeds the number of credits (2/3 of total) determined in the preceding step. This list of courses (2/3 of credits of the probationary courses) is referred to as the readmission courses.

A suspended student becomes eligible for readmission only after earning a grade of C or better in the readmission courses. Students will have a maximum of two years from the time the plan is created to successfully complete it. Failure to do so will result in permanent suspension from the BSME program.

The readmission courses can be taken as soon as they are offered, only if the student has passed the prerequisite courses. A grade of D- is considered “passing” for the prerequisite requirement unless stated otherwise in the PSU Bulletin.

Students who have been suspended can expect a delay in their planned graduation date. The delay is a direct, and natural consequence of the poor academic performance that lead to suspension. The faculty and staff of the MME Department will work with students to help them complete the requirements for the BSME degree. However, the readmission procedure will not be compromised because of external hardships or inconveniences to the students.
