Serina Fast Horse (Sicangu Lakota & Blackfeet) is a PSU post-baccalaureate student completing a second major in Indigenous Nations Studies to complement her BS in Community Development. Her multidisciplinary undergraduate studies included physical and social sciences, philosophy, and art; all with a focus on environmental issues. She is also an intern with the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) where she serves as a community liaison. Her work with the City is focused on an innovative project that is integrating Indigenous Traditional Ecological and Cultural Knowledge (ITECK) into restoration plans through meaningful, community-led collaboration. She recently completed two additional internships with the City. One of these was with the BES Community Watershed Stewardship Program, a grants program that provides support to community organizations who are improving their neighborhood environments. The second internship was with the Tribal Relations Department, serving to assist the Tribal Relations Director organize the 2nd Annual Tribal Nations Summit. She is always looking to continue to learn and develop skills that will help her achieve the overarching goal of all her work; holistic, collective healing to help restore balance on Earth for our future generations.
