Program Administration
SSWC is fee-funded, and the Student Fee Committee (SFS) is responsible for recommending allocations and amounts to the Associated Students of Portland State University (ASPSU) and the University President. The SSWC Advisory Board serves as an advisory council and reserves the right to review and revise JSCS eligibility and application. Awards are contingent upon available funding.
The JSCS is an award program for eligible PSU students with children. PSU and SSWC do not endorse or make recommendations regarding childcare providers. Students may choose any childcare provider that meets the provider criteria for our program and is responsible for all screening, contracting, and monitoring of their childcare arrangements.
Our Mission
The JSCS is offered by Services for Students with Children at PSU. The subsidy supports PSU students with children to persist towards their educational goals, building long-term stability while studying, attending class, and working. We believe every student with children has the right to affordable childcare.
Jim Sells Childcare Subsidy covers 10-50 percent of out-of-pocket mandatory childcare tuition and fees, thus providing eligible students with affordable childcare during the dates of PSU’s academic terms.
