Advising Notes

FILM ADVISING NOTES 2023 - 24

1. Students must declare the Film Major at the start of enrollment at PSU to be able to register for majors-only courses. Upon declaration of the major, please sign-up to receive weekly notices about important information by bringing your email to the School of Film office, 127 Lincoln Hall or by email to psufilm@pdx.edu. All declared film majors will receive an invitation to receive the weekly email at the start of each term.

2.  PREREQUISITE REMINDER If a class has a prerequisite of FILM 131 Film Analysis and you took a class equivalent to FILM 131, but not this specific class, you will need to get instructor approval for a prerequisite override in order to register. Banner does not recognize equivalent courses, only the exact prerequisite. Contact the instructor of the class for an online override. If you are on a catalog prior to Fall 2018, you do not need to take FILM 132 Introduction to Digital Filmmaking. If a class has a prerequisite of FILM 132, you will need to get instructor approval for a prerequisite override in order to register.

3.   The Film History sequence—FILM 381-382-383—does not need to be taken in sequence.

4.    Film Majors should not take FILM 331U Understanding Movies.

5.    Beginning Fall 2018, FILM 280 is a prerequisite for FILM 480.

6.    When you register for a topics course in film and media offered in the film program or elsewhere in the university, inquire with your advisor to determine if it can count toward your International Cinema requirement.
