Transfer Student General Education Requirements (Archived)

Bulletin/Catalog 2021-2022 and Prior Years

Applies to transfer students (30+ transfer credits) only. Postbac students (pursuing second bachelors
degrees) and students who began at PSU as freshmen do not need this requirement.

Transfer students complete 27 credits of freshman and sophomore level General Education. These credits are
comprised of approved AL/SS, University Studies or Honors credits. Depending on transfer count, the 27
credits could even be a combination of these (see below).

If your credits transferred total: Your lower division General Education is fulfilled by:
30-59 Credits 3 University Studies Sophomore Inquiry Courses (or Urban Honors)
-AND-
15 AL/SS credits including Writing 121, COMM 220/Speech (+ WR 227 if Civil or Environmental);
choose remaining credits to reach 15 total (including WR 121, Speech, etc.) from second page
60-74 Credits 2 University Studies Sophomore Inquiry Courses (or Urban Honors)
-AND-
19 AL/SS credits including Writing 121, COMM 220/Speech (+ WR 227 if Civil or Environmental);
choose remaining credits to reach 19 total (including WR 121, Speech, etc.) from second page
75-89 Credits 1 University Studies Sophomore Inquiry Course (or Urban Honors)
-AND-
23 AL/SS credits including Writing 121, COMM 220/Speech (+ WR 227 if Civil or Environmental);
choose remaining credits to reach 23 total (including WR 121, Speech, etc.) from second page
90+ Credits No lower division University Studies (or Urban Honors) Courses required
27 AL/SS credits including Writing 121, COMM 220/Speech (+ WR 227 if Civil or Environmental);
choose remaining credits to reach 27 total (including WR 121, Speech, etc.) from second page

Please consult with an advisor for any questions regarding these requirements. AL/SS credits should
constitute a breadth of coursework.

Expected level for this requirement is freshman or sophomore (100 or 200 level courses).
Students may also choose junior or senior level if they prefer (300 or 400).
