You could learn how hardware and software fit together, shaping how machines process data, control devices, and interact with the world. Whether it’s robotics, embedded technology, or advanced computing systems, the focus is on making technology faster, smarter, and more capable in real use.

Electrical engineers study electricity and the design of circuits and computer chips. You could explore how electricity is generated and controlled, and how changes in electricity carry power and information. Explore how design choices affect things you can see—how fast a device responds, how much power it uses, and whether it runs reliably. That same knowledge applies whether you’re working on electronics in your pocket or systems that generate and deliver power to entire cities.

Environmental engineers design and maintain systems that provide clean drinking water, treat wastewater, manage stormwater, and reduce pollution. You study how water, air, and soil systems work, then use math, science, and engineering tools to improve infrastructure and protect public health. Along the way, you learn how technical solutions operate within real communities, regulations, and environmental limits.

Civil engineers plan, design, and build the infrastructure that shapes how cities work—streets and bridges, buildings, transit systems, and water networks. You learn by working on real design problems, using engineering software, lab testing, and field data to evaluate materials, structures, and transportation systems. Much of the work is collaborative, involving teams of engineers, planners, architects, and public agencies to balance safety, cost, and community needs.

Mechanical engineers design and improve machines and systems that move, heat, cool, and manufacture things. You study forces, motion, energy, and materials, then apply that knowledge by building and testing components, running experiments, and analyzing performance data. The work is collaborative and iterative, often involving design reviews, lab testing, and problem‑solving with other engineers as systems are refined and improved.

Maseeh brings together students from many backgrounds to learn engineering and computer science side by side. More than 45% of our students are the first in their families to attend college, and we’re intentional about supporting diverse voices in STEM. Students connect through study groups, student organizations, and project teams, building community and support both inside and outside the classroom.

Maseeh students study and work in a region with strong demand for engineers and computer scientists across technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, and public service. Through internships, research, and project‑based courses, students gain experience with employers such as Intel, Amazon, and the Portland Bureau of Transportation, along with many local firms and startups. These connections help students build experience, professional networks, and momentum toward engineering and computing careers after graduation.

Maseeh’s programs are shaped by exceptional faculty and the highest professional standards in engineering education. The college includes 92 faculty members, including two members of the National Academy of Engineering and seven recipients of National Science Foundation Early Career Awards. More than $16 million in annual research funding supports work in computing, sustainability, and infrastructure, and undergraduate engineering programs are accredited by ABET—reflecting the profession’s most demanding expectations.

At Maseeh, you don’t wait until senior year to do real engineering. You work directly with faculty from the start—building robots, training AI models, fabricating tiny devices, and testing ideas that don’t always work the first time. Through faculty‑led research and teams like the Portland State Aerospace Society (PSAS), you collaborate across disciplines, learn by trying, fixing, and trying again, and discover what it feels like to solve problems that don’t have a single right answer.
