Short-Term Courses Abroad
International Faculty-Led Programs are PSU courses, designed for PSU students, taught by PSU faculty in a foreign country.
Programs are typically 2-3 weeks in length, taught with the full support of a local partner abroad (that means no foreign language or previous travel experience necessary for the faculty and students). Program Leaders are paid according to their contracted rate at PSU based on the number of credits each leader is delivering. Over 50% of study abroad students at PSU are on these types of programs due to their affordable nature and short timeframe.
Virtual Education Abroad
Create or enhance a course with dynamic and engaging virtual content. These opportunities are fully customizable around your goals.
Some examples include: adding guest lectures from qualified instructors abroad to a course, developing a syllabus with international learning outcomes in mind to encourage cross-cultural competency, engaging with COIL: Collaborative Online International Learning, in which faculty co-teach with overseas instructors to create a course in which students complete shared assignments.
Fulbright for Faculty & Scholars
The Fulbright Scholar Program offers nearly 500 teaching, research, or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries.
Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars, and many others. In addition to several new program models designed to meet the changing needs of U.S. academics and professionals, Fulbright is offering more opportunities for flexible, multi-country grants.
Faculty Voices from Abroad
Professor George Rede led a group of PSU students to England in 2018 & 2019. Having never been to London before, it was as much fun for him to explore the city as it was for his students. His Communication course, Media Literacy in London was facilitated by our partner CAPA Study Abroad, who helped to manage all the logistics and to set up activities like a tour of the Houses of Parliament, a visit to the Museum of Brands, and a visit to the BBC.
His Media Literacy program was such a success he is hoping to lead a new group of students to Berlin in 2021, this time with a focus on Sports, Culture, and the Media.
Visiting Professorships with USAC
Professors from USAC Affiliate Universities have the unique opportunity to help internationalize their home universities and support the USAC mission by teaching abroad on summer, or semester Specialty Programs. USAC provides dedicated support for PSU faculty who will assist with the application process and all pre‐departure advising. Once on‐site, Visiting Professors (VPs) become part of the USAC office abroad.
Because teaching on this program requires approval by PSU Ed Abroad, we request you to meet with Hannah Fischer, the Faculty-Led Coordinator prior to applying.
Symposium on International Faculty-Led Programs
This annual event, hosted by Education Abroad, brings together faculty, administrators, and providers to explore new ideas in the field of international short-term faculty-led programs. PSU faculty and staff can attend each year for free.
