The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers several ways to continue your engineering education without the commitment of applying to a graduate program of study.

FE and PE Exam Review Courses

Fundamentals of Engineering Review Course (CE 047)

CRN: 40547

Offered Winter term 2013 - Fridays 4:00p to 6:50p - Engineering Building, Room 102.

Course fee = $185

The course book, FE Review Manual, by Michael Lindeburg, will be available for sale through the CEE Department by our Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Student Group as a fundraising opportunity.  The books are available for $75 ($10 off the retail price).  The Discipline Specific Review Manuals are also for sale at only $55 ($5 off retail price), or buy both for $125, to save an additional $5.  Both manuals are available for sale at the CEE Front Desk (Engineering Building, room 200); accepting cash, check, or credit card.

Course materials will be available on Desire2Learn (D2L).  Log in to D2L here using your PSU login information.  More information about how to use D2L can be found here.

This review course is designed for those who have earned (or are within months of earning) their Bachelor degree in Engineering and are preparing to take the Fundamental of Engineering certification test administered by the Oregon State Board of Examiners (www.osbeels.org). This non-credit course is offered once per year in the winter term as preparation for the April test.

Professional Engineers Review Course (CE 046)

CRN: 40546

Offered Winter term 2013 - Tuesdays 6:40p to 9:30p - Engineering Building, Room 310

Course fee = $400; no text is required for this course.  Course materials will be available on Desire2Learn (D2L).  Log in to D2L here using your PSU login information.  More information about how to use D2L can be found here.

This review course is designed for those who have been working in the field for a while and wish to pursue a professional licence. The test is administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (www.ncees.org). This non-credit course is offered once per year in the winter term as preparation for the April test.

Review Course Registration Information

If you have not taken courses from PSU before then you will also need to do the Non-Degree Admit process detailed at this link: www.pdx.edu/admissions/how-to-apply-non-degree

You should apply for Non-Degree Entry if you:

  • are not seeking a degree from Portland State,
  • have never attended Portland State,
  • plan to enroll in 8 or fewer credits per term, and
  • do not plan to receive financial aid.

If you are unsure if the Non-Degree Entry is the right admissions status for you, please speak with an Admissions Counselor by contacting the Office of Admissions, Registration and Records

Applying for Non-Degree Entry status is quick and easy. You can submit an online application by following these directions:

  • Go to the online application system
  • Create a user account by clicking on "First time user account creator"
  • Create a new login ID and PIN, and click Login.
  • Select ONE of the Non-Degree options from the drop down menu
    • Non-Degree Undergraduate- if you do not have a bachelor's degree
    • Non-Degree Graduate - if you do have a bachelor's degree
  • Complete the online form, pay the $25 application fee and submit.
  • Keep your browser window open after you submit to view your welcome message, including your PSU ID number.

Once you have been admitted you are ready to register! Basic Online Instructions:

Log in to banweb.pdx.edu, using your PSU Student ID number or ODIN Username, and password.  First-time users of the portal need to synchronize their Portland State computer accounts, or create an initial account, using OAM (Odin Account Manager).

Once you have logged into the PSU Information System to register for either of these classes, please follow this path:

Registration Menu >click the  Add/Drop Classes link > enter the respective CRN number listed below. DO NOT use the first suggested path for registration under the Choose Courses heading to register for this course.

The course numbers (crn) are not searchable on the system so you will need to keep these handy when you are registering:
