PhD Admissions

Application Deadlines

NOTE: We currently have a moratorium on admissions to the Urban Studies Ph.D. program. We will not be accepting applications for the next three academic years (Fall 2024-26), while we re-envision the curriculum and build sustainable funding sources for students.

Application Requirements

Applicants to the doctoral programs must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all undergraduate courses and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in all graduate credits earned at accredited institutions. If admitted, you may be able to transfer a maximum of 24 of the 72 credits (quarter system).

Applicants to the doctoral programs must have a master's degree in a related field.

Transcripts

A scanned copy of your official transcript (front and back) from each post-secondary education institution you've attended must be included in your application. Please note that even if credits from one institution are listed on another school's transcript, we still require a separate transcript from every institution attended (including study abroad). If admitted, you will then be required to submit a sealed official transcript to the Graduate School before you can register for your first term at PSU. Official transcripts should reach us by the beginning of May. Registration for fall quarter typically opens towards the end of May. Please visit the Graduate School for complete instructions on submitting transcripts.
