Welcome CUS Fellow Tessa Hong!

Taekyoung (Tessa) Hong has joined the Center for Urban Studies (CUS) as a Visiting Fellow through January 2027. She is a senior civil engineering officer at Hwaseong Special Metropolitan City Government, South Korea. Hwaseong is one of the fastest-growing industrial cities in South Korea and has recently transitioned into a Special Metropolitan City. As the Team Leader of the Development Permit Division, Tessa has been responsible for managing development activities and coordinating infrastructure provision while implementing growth management policies to address rapid urban expansion. She participated in the formulation of the “Hwaseong-style Urban Growth Management Basic Plan (2021).” Tessa has an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Kookmin University and a master’s degree in urban and real estate development from Suwon University in South Korea.

During her time at PSU, Tessa will be conducting comparative research on Portland’s urban growth management system, with a particular focus on industrial land and regional economic development planning.
