Congratulations to Tyler Frisbee, the new director for the Institute of Portland Metropolitan Studies!
Tyler, a Portland native, grew up hearing about land use policy and urban growth boundaries. Before coming to IMS, she worked for 1000 Friends of Oregon, Metro, and Congressman Blumenauer. Most of her work has been focused on building transportation projects that positively impact communities and the people and places around them.
“I like to say that I work at the intersection of policy and politics and land use and transportation, which aligns well with the Institute of Metropolitan Studies and its legacy,” said Tyler, who hopes to help IMS play a supportive role in bringing local urban planning projects to fruition.
Her first goal as director is to build out a board and a workplan for IMS. She hopes to create a space in which policymakers can form connections with the College of Urban and Public Affairs (CUPA) as well as discuss complementary-but-not-aligned visions and projects.
“There are a lot of different directions we can go,” said Tyler. “What is the most helpful to our community, what builds on CUPA’s and PSU’s strengths, and what helps fulfill President Cudd’s vision to truly help knowledge serve the city?”
