Flagship Student Work

A core idea behind the Russian Flagship Program is for students to use their language skills in projects that engage and benefit the larger Russian-speaking community. The links below will take you to the creative projects that our students have worked on in relation to their courses. We are grateful to all the students who have given us their permission to host their projects on our site. Молодцы!

Study Abroad Blogs

Each year a cohort of Flagship students travel abroad through programs hosted by American Councils for International Education. During these two academic years, students lived in homestays in St. Petersburg and studied at St. Petersburg State University.

As a part of the study abroad curriculum, students complete a capstone project in Russian and share it as a blog with students completing the domestic portion of the Flagship program.

Configure Google Translate in your browser to automatically translate these blogs. Learn how.

Flagshippers produce an open access e-book:

Through Dream and Time: A Fantasy

Text in Russian by Margaret Kvach, Todd Long, Shelby Macy, and Evan Schott. Illustrated by Shelby Macy.

Independent Study Abroad Blogs

While studying abroad, students have the opportunity to document their days by journaling in English and sharing their adventures with students at beginning levels of Russian in the Flagship Domestic program.

These journals give a peek into their daily routine. They describe the people they meet and the places they visit. The journals also show how they are navigating language or cultural barriers and provide invaluable insights into both the challenges and rewards of studying abroad.

Independent Study Project: Laila
