Flagshipper earns Honorable mention

Flagshipper, Sophia Kogan, earns Honorable Mention in C3 in the National Post-Secondary Russian Essay contest 2022.

Category-Level C3 are students with pre-college Russian such as heritage speakers and students from the FSU who regularly speak Russian with their families and/or in the community.

Flagship and the Portland-Khabarovsk Sister City Association

As a part of the Portland-Khabarovsk Sister City Association annual “Bridge to Russia” event on November 6, 2021, the leadership of the sister city organization asked the Flagship Program to prepare an 8-10 minute presentation about the Russian program at PSU. Director Bill Comer and Zoe Landi Fontana, a recent Flagship At Large alumna, produced video recordings.

Comer’s included an overview of the Russian Flagship at PSU. Landi Fontana briefly described her PSU Capstone project in which she interviewed Russian musicians and artists who have settled in the Portland area.

This event attracted audiences from both Portland/southwest Washington and from our sister city Khabarovsk, RU.

Annually, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recognizes exceptional teaching and leadership with the student-nominated John Eliot Allen Outstanding Teaching Awards. In spring of 2021, Russian instructor Daria Dmitrievna Aleeva was awarded for her outstanding commitment to successful language learning.
