PR405 Social Media and Information Warfare

About This Course

Social media's enormous impact is undeniable. Social media platforms connect people across geography, culture, and all demographics. These connections allow information sharing in ways that were unimaginable only 20 years ago. The manipulation of social media platforms has grown in parallel, resulting in the promotion of social instability, political conflict, and in some cases, violence, through the proliferation of disinformation and misinformation. False information has been weaponized by a variety of entities with a wide array of malign goals in mind. We will discuss false information, clickbait, manipulated content, deep fakes, and the important part framing plays in how we consume and spread social media content.
