Dear Campus Community,
As the fall sunshine lights up the Park Blocks and we prepare to start classes on Monday, I am dismayed to hear reports that the federal government has authorized troops to be deployed on the streets of Portland. But I am also heartened by the unified response of our city, state, congressional, and community leaders rejecting the deployment of federal troops to Portland and reminding us that our city is safe, peaceful, and vibrant.
I can assure you that we are closely tracking the situation, coordinating with our partners at the city of Portland and the Governor’s office, and will do everything we can to keep our campus community safe and thriving. At Portland State we believe in free speech and the freedom of academic inquiry. Hate, bias, and violence have no place on our campus.
What makes PSU special is our community. I’m looking forward to strengthening our ties this year and urge us to continue to look out for one another as we embrace our academic endeavors in an increasingly complex world.
Resources for students, employees and information about what it means that PSU is a sanctuary campus is available online.
Sincerely,
Ann Cudd
PSU President
