March 2024

Professor Maurice Hamington visited Cal Poly Humboldt during the first week of March to deliver the presentation, "Revolutionary Care and Inclusive Excellent" for their annual Philosophy Forum Address. He also conducted a training on care ethics for the President, Provost, and Vice Provosts of the University. Finally, he conducted an external program review of the Philosophy Department. 

On Saturday, March 16, Maurice made a virtual presentation titled, "Revolutionary Care with Maurice Hamington" for San Francisco's Mechanics' Institute's Teacher Tea series. You can watch the presentation by following this link.

On March 20, Maurice presented "Care Ethics: Emergent Normativity for a Process Morality," at the American Philosophical Society Pacific Division Annual Meeting in Portland.

January 2024

Professor Maurice Hamington was interviewed for the Deal With Animals podcast on January 1st, 2024, where he applied care ethics to our relationship with animals and discussed his forthcoming book, Revolutionary Care: Commitment and Ethos. Here is a link to the podcast.

Professor David Weber visited Nanjing, China for the month, teaching in the Portland Institute-NJUPT summer ACE program for incoming freshmen to Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Their goal was to prepare students in the program to do better in classes taught by PSU faculty, by clearing up misunderstandings regarding group work, assignment deadlines, plagiarism and citing of sources, along with working to improve note-taking skills with respect to written and oral presentation of material, and with verbal English communication skills.

Professor Angela Coventry will be presenting the paper "Spinoza and Hume on Miracles" in a Panel on Naturalism at a Conference in Honor of Don Garrett, New York University, NY, MAy 24th, 2023.

Professor Angela Coventry is participating on a panel titled "So You Want to Write Book (Or Learn How It's Done)" . It will be held on Thursday, May 11th, 2023 at 4 pm in Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 327/8/9.

Congratulations to philosophers Monica Mueller and Alex Sager who have collaborated with colleagues Deborah Arthur and Charles Klein to secure a National Endowment for the Humanities grant to expand the college level course offerings available at Coffee Creek Correctional facility. Professor Mueller is looking forward to teaching Feminist Philosophy during the Winter Term 2024.
