When traveling abroad on university business, filing a Travel Authorization (TA) prior to departure is required—regardless of your funding source.
While international travel is an invaluable part of our work, it comes with unique risks. Submitting a TA is the most effective way to safeguard your health and safety abroad.
Why File a Travel Authorization?
Submitting your TA before departure benefits you in two key ways:
- Unlocks Low-Cost Health & Emergency Coverage US-based health insurance rarely covers medical care abroad. Completing a TA prompts the Office of Global Engagement and Innovation to help you enroll in emergency medical and evacuation coverage—offering full protection for just $2.60 per day.
- Ensures Fast Assistance During Emergencies The TA system is PSU’s only centralized tool for locating personnel globally. In a natural disaster, public health crisis, or safety emergency, we cannot deploy aid or reach you if we don't know where you are. Sharing your itinerary ensures we can provide immediate support when it matters most.
Please remember: Submit your Travel Authorization before you travel, even if you are not seeking reimbursement for your trip.
