AGI American Geosciences Institute

The American Geosciences Institute would like to announce that the Harriet Evelyn Wallace Scholarship is now open for applications! The scholarship is available for female students pursuing a Master's or Doctoral degree at an accredited institution of higher education in a recognized geoscience program. Each scholarship award is $5,000. One Master's candidate and one Doctoral candidate will be selected for the 2022-2023 scholarship cycle. Applicants may either be entering graduate school or already enrolled in a graduate program in the geosciences.  We strongly encourage incoming Master's students to apply. Successful applicants will be thesis-based, full-time students and must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The application deadline is typically in February. AWG Association for Women Geoscientists

The Association for Women Geoscientists' mission is to encourage the participation of women in the geosciences; exchange education, technical, and professional information; and enhance the professional growth and advancement of women in the geosciences. Sigma Xi Grants in Need of Research (GIAR)

The deadline for applications is March 15. The Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research (GIAR) program has provided undergraduate and graduate students with valuable educational experiences since 1922. By encouraging close working relationships between students and mentors, the program promotes scientific excellence and achievement through hands-on learning. The program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from most areas of the sciences and engineering. Designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision-related research. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site, or for the purchase of non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project. Sigma Xi strongly encourages applications from women and underrepresented minorities, including Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinx, Native Americans, Alaskan Natives, or Native Hawaiians.

GSA Graduate Student Research Grants

Check the website for details: www.geosociety.org/grants/gradgrants.htm. These are in the $1,000 - $3,000 range. These are open to undergraduate and graduate students. 52% of all grant applications are filled!

AIPG National Scholarship Program

Scholarship awards in the amount of $1,000.00 - $3,000 each will be made to eligible students attending a college or university in the U.S. Scholarships are intended to be used to support tuition and/or room and board.  For more information, look at www.aipg.org. You must join AIPG.

AEG: Tilford Scholarship

Amounts vary. Grants from the Tilford Fund are intended to recognize and support deserving undergraduate or graduate geology students who are Student Members of the Association of Environmental & Engineering Geologists. The Tilford Fund does not support general and administrative (overhead) costs, technical or scientific consulting fees, or equipment purchase or maintenance costs of an educational institution employing or teaching individuals who receive grants from it. The due date is early in the year, check the website for this year's deadline, typically in January-February. Engineering Geology Division of GSA

Shlemon Scholarship Award: There is an MS and a Ph.D. one. You need to be a member of GSA engineering geology division which is free. See website: www.geosociety.org/grants.  Look under EGD awards.

AAPG

Grants in Aid for Graduate Students (MS and Ph.D.) – The thesis work has to have an application to the petroleum and energy mineral industry or environmental issues related to the industry.  See website: www.aapg.org.

PNW-AWG

This is the Janet Cullen Tanaka Scholarship to attend a university in geology for a young woman.  You must be a geology/earth science major. Apply here: https://awgpnw2021.wordpress.com/about/.

NAGT/AWG Scholarship Field Studies

Go to: www.nagt.org/nagt/students/fieldscholarships.html#apply. It used to be only for field camp but now can also include undergraduate research.  You need a 3.0 GPA, a short essay, and name some recommendation professors. 

OCAPA

The Oregon Concrete & Aggregate Producers Association (OCAPA) educational fund sponsors scholarships for deserving students pursuing a career related to the construction materials industry.  Areas of study may include but are not limited to: construction materials, engineering, geology, architecture, land use planning, biology, environmental law, and fish & wildlife studies. The Laura Bassi Scholarship

Award was established by Editing Press in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed. The scholarships are open to every discipline. All currently enrolled master’s and doctoral candidates are eligible to apply, as are academics in the first five years of full-time employment. Applicants are required to submit a completed application form along with their CV through the application portal by the relevant deadline.
