Congratulations to the 2023 - 24 Koerner Camera Systems Scholarship Recipients

Portland State University School of Film extends its congratulations to the 2023 - 24 recipients of the Koerner Camera Systems Scholarships, Elias Lunsford and Elijah Stegner-Herbest.

Now in its eighth year, this scholarship, made possible by the generous support of Koerner Camera Systems, enables the School of Film to make two awards of $5,000 each to Film majors with an interest in cinematography.

Elias Lunsford, a senior Film major, is paying for his education with loans and is thankful for the generous award which is “helping ease the debt that is looming menacingly over the horizon.” Elias first became interested in film in high school and since developed an interest in cinematography. “I’ve grown to be obsessed with lighting and composition and how they create atmosphere.” He has found a strong community in the Portland film scene and is excited to “create specific and unique visual languages for films.”

Before junior Elijah Stegner-Herbest came to Portland State, he was a self-taught filmmaker. His desire to be “part of a good film program where I could work hands-on and learn how production works” along with “the opportunity PSU’s film program gives to aspiring filmmakers” drew him to the PSU film program. The financial support of the Koerner Scholarship will allow Elijah to focus on his studies and continue to develop his cinematography focus.

The ongoing support of Koerner Camera Systems is a vital and foundational contribution to student success in the School of Film.
