Come join us for a screening followed by a Q&A with the film’s director and producer. Outliers and Outlaws premiered to a sold out audience at the QDoc festival in November 2024, followed by a sold out run of screenings at Cinema 21 in December.

A story of lesbian world-builders, Outiers and Outlaws uncovers the fabulous history of a large and vibrant lesbian community in Eugene, Oregon. Women who migrated to this small town in the 1960s-80s candidly share stories about the power of courageous and creative world-building. Intimate portraits—both then and now—model living in hard times with hope, humor, and commitment to social change. Narrated by musician Jody Bleyle, Outliers includes a rich archive of images documenting this groundbreaking community.
This film works to address the erasure of LGBTQ history, fostering intergenerational conversations about marginalized identities and cultural heritage. It offers visibility for LGBTQ elders who often feel isolated and unseen, as well as for younger generations unaware of their community’s rich history beyond tragic narratives.

The film has a run time of 65 minutes. This program is presented as part of Outliers and Outlaws: Stories from the Eugene Lesbian Oral History Project.
