Hold onto your seats for this hair-raising ride through one of cinema’s most kinetic and suspenseful genres. From classic epics SAN FRANCISCO and THE RAINS CAME, and “all-star” 70’s blockbusters, EARTHQUAKE, THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE & THE TOWERING INFERNO; to the increasingly-wild “Airport” trilogy; and outrageous specialities “TWO MINUTE WARNING”, “ROLLERCOASTER” and the Good Year Blimp-attacking BLACK SUNDAY. We’ll explore the history, the makers, and all the breakthrough special effects.

This class will be taught by director-writer Jack Perez, whose own SyFy Channel feature, BLAST VEGAS!, pays homage to the genre with non-stop campy-chaos. Perez is a professor of film at USC, PCC, CCC, The NY Film Academy, and The Academy of Art in SF. He is also the creator of the popular YouTube Premium Channel, CINEFIX. Jack currently lives in Portland with his wife and 4 cats.

Class will be held in room LH115 in Lincoln Hall, at 1620 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97201 on the Portland State University Campus.

PSU Students are free with valid student ID! Present ID at door for admission - no ticket needed.
