Hannah Marrs

I started working with Education Abroad in 2019 as a graduate assistant while completing my Master's of Arts in Postsecondary Adult and Continuing Education. I am happy to continue in this office as the Interim Faculty-Led Program Coordinator.

Before coming to PSU for my Master's degree, I spent five years living in the Maldives islands where I snorkeled, learned Dhivehi Language and taught Linguistics at a local college. Working with college students in that role is what prompted me to go back for my master's to continue working in student services at a college or university.

My love for language and culture began as a middle schooler when I visited Tijuana, Mexico, a quick trip from my Southern California home. I was immediately enamored with Spanish and all things Mexican culture, and essentially didn't stop learning languages. I studied Linguistics and Religious Studies in my undergraduate years, including dabbling in Chinese, Hindi, Bahasa Indonesia, and Hebrew and Arabic after college. I have had the privilege of extensive travel in Southeast Asia, and look forward to visiting Africa and South American someday!

I love all things intercultural and international, and am passionate about students having positive, transformative learning experiences abroad.

When I am not nerding out on languages, I am hanging with my 6 and 4 year old at a park, or hiking with my partner of 14 years! I am a classic Portlander now in my love for the Coast, Food, Beverages and Books.
